Second Language Learning

I. Summary

Nowaday, English is one of the most popular language, and it should be neccessary to live in this world, so many people try to learn it. As we know, learning a new language is not easy, and it must takes a long time. Individually, there are some different achievment during learning process. Where does it belongs? and which one is the most effective way to learn second language?

Simply, there are two kind of explanation about that; one thing is Cognitive Factors, and the other is Affective Factors. Cognitive Factors has several kind of factors, such as Intelligence, Language aptitude, which one includes Phonetic Coding Ability, Grammatical Sensitivity, Memory Abilities, and Inductive Language Learning, and Language Learning Strategies. Secondly, Affective Factors includes these sources, as Language Attitudes, Motivation, and Language anxiety.

Generally speaking, there are so many ways to study second language, and each individual has their own way to do it, but sometimes, there are the most effective ways, so just find a way as effective as you can, and boldly try to learn and to use it.

II. Personal response

The Author-I am really sorry about that I do not have any idea about the author's name and the title of book because I just have a handout that I got it during the Reading and writing class- tryed to explain it two points of view. One is ability that we innated, such as talent, and the other is our efforts.

In my opinion, I strongly agree with Motivation, which gives reasons why you have to learn second language. Usually, we say, "Effort can change person whom called foolish to be genius." Innated things, which we got it from God, are not primarily important. I think our efforts are also important. For example, if you have a good aptitude to learn a new language, you should learn it easily, and If you have a boldness, you can be a good speaker. Especially, motivation provides you lots of benefits to learn it. Before you study a new language, you have to know why you have to do it and why it is necessary in your life. That is the first step. As we know, the first step is always the most important one that we do. That is motivation, and that gives you a lot of energy to make it possible, even hard obsacles, and then, environment, strategies, and talent are possibly effect on it and exist. When I am trying to learn a new language, I believe that motivation is the first step, and it encourages me to learn it.

yes, i tolally agree with you. motivation is very important not only learning the second language. i used to be in the situation that i don't want to do such as i had to learn piano when i was a child (i don't want to learn it at that time; whatsoever.) finally, i got nothing about piano. so sad. i know at that time, i didn't have any motivation. i just wanted to play with my friends. poor me.

now, i really want to learn piano, saxophone, flute and any other music instruments, because i love jazz music, i want to play my own way. yet i don't have a chance to do it. poor me again.

motivation but chance. haha. :)
